This course consists on an introduction to the literature produced primarily by Anglophone African writers, but it also includes some prominent non-Anglophone writers whose works have been translated into English. The course encompasses modern and classic literary works through a variety of forms such as novels, poetry and prose, and plays. Works will be analyzed and discussions will be based on their thematic, historical, political, social and literary contexts, and their influence and relevance in the African societies then and now. As prospective teachers, students will be able to grasp the history and development of the African literature and cultures and its varieties of English.
